Xiaomi adds a liquid lens to the Mi Mix |
Xiaomi upcoming Mi Mix phone includes a liquid lens camera. The company investigated this feature through posts on the Chinese blogging platform Weibo.
The lens is internally developed and can simulate the functional principle of the human eye and instantly show how objects can be focused at different distances.
As the name suggests, a lens usually contains a layer of liquid, and the focus and focal length of the lens are changed by applying voltage.
Xiaomi said: In addition to providing fast autofocus, the lens can hold a single camera that is responsible for everything from close-up shots to telephoto shots. The phone is scheduled to appear on March 29th.
Xiaomi calls this technology electronic photography, which is a transparent liquid wrapped in an ultra-thin film that can change the curvature of the lens for fast refocusing and reduce distortion.
According to the official publication of the company, the liquid has a high light transmission, very low dispersion and is very resistant to environmental factors.
Liquid lenses have been around for several years, but they are usually found in industrial applications where traditional lenses with moving mechanical parts can wear out quickly, but their small size and versatility make them attractive options for smartphones.
In theory, a single liquid lens camera could integrate multiple cameras behind most of the flagship smartphones.
In addition to Xiaomi, there were rumors last year that Huawei was also investigating the use of technology in its smartphones.
This liquid lens appears to work very well with the Xiaomi Mi Mix series which has been featuring some great experimental designs over the years.
In 2018, Mi Mix 3 was one of the first mobile phones to introduce a mechanical sliding camera for selfies. The following year, Mi Mix Alpha was launched, with its screen almost completely covering the device.
