| Twitter is categorizing coronavirus misinformation |
The Twitter platform announced that it has begun classifying tweets that contain misleading information about the Corona vaccine, and that the tags contain links to relevant information from official bodies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The platform plans to impose a fines system on repeat violators that could lead to account closure and permanent suspension.
The new hashtag is similar to the anti-fake hashtag Facebook, or the hashtag that Twitter launched at the start of the epidemic.
The tag will appear as text at the bottom of the misleading Tweet with links to information from official sources or Twitter databases.
The platform said: It applies these conditions through a number of manual and automatic review systems, and has started offering content in English first.
Twitter has set specific standards for tagging in its coronavirus disinformation policy. However, the company generally targets five types of false or misleading information:
- Incorrect information about the type of virus.
- Incorrect information about the effectiveness of treatment and preventive measures.
- Incorrect information about health promotion regulations, restrictions, and exemptions.
- False information about the spread of the virus and the risk of infection or death.
- Misleading affiliation, for example b - claiming to be a doctor or public health official.
These names also introduce a new penal system for misinformation about Corona vaccines.
Labeled malicious Tweets are considered infringing. If Twitter determines that the disinformation is particularly dangerous, it can also delete the Tweets, and the accumulation of alerts at the account level will lead to various actions.
These tags are part of a broader disinformation strategy Twitter used in the 2020 elections. If the tags contain inaccurate information, tweets from politicians (including past presidents) are added to it.
Although the stickers appear helpful, they do not necessarily prevent people from sharing misinformation about the Corona vaccine.
Likewise, the penalty for arriving late (like commenting) before creating five bad Tweets means that misinformation can only be posted with text as a warning.
Here are the various sanctions imposed by Twitter for various violations:
- One violation: No action will be taken at the account level.
- Two violations: the account is locked for 12 hours.
- Three types of breach: 12-hour account lockout.
- Four violations: Suspending the account for a period of 7 days.
- Violation of five or more articles: permanent suspension.
