| Sonos Announces Roam Portable Speaker |
Sonos has officially announced its latest Sonos Roam Smart, a portable, battery-powered speaker that costs $ 170.
Sonos Move was the company's first attempt at making portable speakers, but it was just too big and bulky.
However, the Roam is a smart portable speaker that can be taken anywhere and is the company's smallest speaker as Sonos aims to revolutionize the portable speaker market.
The woofer measures 6.61 x 2.44 x 2.36 inches and weighs 43 grams, with this size, the question is whether Roam can match the Sonos' long-established reputation for sound quality.
With AirPlay 2, roaming delivers great sound, automatic switching of wireless charging, Bluetooth and Qi, and up to 10 hours of battery life.
The Roam includes two H series amplifiers, a high-end woofer and a dedicated subwoofer to ensure true mid-range operation and reduce low output power.
Sonos also brings automatic Trueplay to Navigation, allowing it to customize the sound output of the room or environment the speaker is located in for the best results.
A built-in microphone is used for this, and the Alexa voice command amplifier and Google Assistant also have a built-in microphone.
Unlike the Sonos Move, where you can choose between WLAN and Bluetooth mode, Roam uses both connections.
You can also use Bluetooth to browse specific content on the phone and extend it to your entire Sonos multi-room system.
Apple AirPlay 2 is also supported. As always, you can play audio from various services through the Sonos mobile app.
Roaming can take up to 10 hours and a USB-C charging cable is included.
Sonos also sells magnetically bonded Roam wireless charging stations. However, in this case, you can use any Qi wireless charger that is suitable for the earphone.
When the repeater is not in use, roaming in standby mode can take up to 10 days.
Roamer has undergone numerous durability tests as both Roamer's ends contain silicone to keep it from protecting in the event of a drop.
It is IP67 water and dust resistant, so it can be submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.
In addition to support for Google Assistant, Alexa and AirPlay 2, the speaker also includes a new function called "Sound Swap". Press and hold the power button for three seconds while roaming to stream audio from other Sonos speakers.
