Pikmin is the next AR game from Pokémon Go |
Pokémon Go developer Niantic announced a new partnership with Nintendo as a result of an augmented reality mobile game based on the popular Nintendo Pikmin franchise that will be released later this year.
So far, details are very scarce, but Niantic said the app includes fun activities to encourage walking and increase the joy of walking.

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto said in a statement: Niantic's augmented reality technology enables us to experience the world as if Pikmin were secretly living around us.
He added: Based on the theme of making walking fun, our mission is to offer people a new experience that differs from traditional games and we hope Pikmin and this app will become your partner.
The Pikmin franchise is all about exploring a planet like Earth with a group of Pikmin. So Niantic's Pikmin involves walking and exploring the world around him, which is very important.
Pikmin 3 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch is the latest game in the Pikmin series. This is an extended version of the game that was released for the Wii U in 2013.
Niantic didn't mention any other games she has worked on with Nintendo, but the two companies appear to have a long-term partnership.
“We are delighted that Nintic has chosen Niantic as publisher of real-world augmented reality applications,” Niantic said. More details about future apps will be announced in the coming months.
Niantic is best known for Pokémon Go, a very popular augmented reality game that was released in July 2016.
Although it is almost five years old, the game is still very popular. Niantic had to make changes to the game and due to the coronavirus pandemic, many games remained in the game.
These changes haven't stopped Pokémon Go revenue generation, and 2020 will be the game's biggest year yet. According to data from app analytics company Sensor Tower, game sales topped $ 1 billion in November.
