Jeep plans to install off-road chargers |
Jeep plans to partner with Electrify America to create a Jeep 4xe cargo system. Next year, Jeep-branded charging stations will be installed off-road so vehicle owners can take full advantage of the company's four-wheel drive electric vehicles to power the vehicles.
The Jeep 4xe cargo terminal is slated to open this spring at three of the most popular off-road and track locations under the Jeep brand.
It is expected that more Jeep 4xe stations will be operational across the country by the end of 2021.
The charging station is located near the Jeep Badge of Honor Railroad, which is an off-road rewards program that supports enthusiasts who want to purchase a Jeep Wrangler 4xe Badge of Honor.
Charging stations are either connected directly to the power grid or use solar energy.
“Electricity opens a new chapter in the history of the Jeep brand. It brings new excitement and new fun to avid car owners,” said Christian Monnier, CEO of Jeep Stelantis.
The key to making the Jeep brand the greenest SUV brand is in reassuring car owners that they can enjoy the benefits of electric driving anywhere, including the country's most popular off-road vehicle, he added.
As part of building a network of charging stations for electric all-terrain vehicles, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Plug-In Hybrid has been launched, the most powerful, technically advanced and environmentally friendly Wrangler vehicle in history.
The Wrangler 4xe allows Jeep fans to explore the natural beauty with an emissions-free transmission that delivers instant torque off-road.
Our goal is to give electric vehicle drivers the freedom to go wherever they want, whether on the highway or off-road, Electrify America said.
The Jeep 4xe grid charger can provide a Level 2 240V charge, and the Tier 2 charger can fully charge the 17kW Wrangler 4xe battery in about 2 hours.
Wrangler 4xe owners can charge their batteries for free via a mobile app, and Jeep has announced that these sites will be compatible with future electric vehicles as well.
A few days ago, Jeep announced an all-electric Wrangler concept, the Magneto.
