Hong Guang Mini is the best selling electric car in the world |
The Hongguang electric compact car overtook the Tesla 3 in January and February to become the world's best-selling electric vehicle, which is not an easy feat for a relatively new sedan.
More than 36,000 small cars were sold in January, down from 21,500 Model 3 vehicles, Hong Guang sold more than 20,000 cars last month, and Tesla less than 13,700.
The small car was jointly produced by Chinese state-owned SAIC, Wuling Motors, and the US automaker General Motors Corporation and is locally called Wuling.
The Hongguang pickup in China is only 28,800 yuan (about $ 4,500), and electric scooters are even higher in the market at present.
According to the company, the car has a range of 170 kilometers per charge and a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour and can be charged from a 240 volt outlet.
The car uses a 13 kW electric motor that can produce 17.4 horsepower and 62.7 lb-ft of torque.
Its specifications include a 76.4-inch wheelbase, approximately 115 inches long, approximately 59 inches wide and approximately 64 inches high, and an overall weight of 665 kg.
Despite its small size, it still has 741 liters of storage space (the rear seats fold down).
The manufacturer said: The Hong Guang Mini can accommodate four people. If you need storage space, the rear seats fold down.
Standard safety features include an anti-lock braking system, tire pressure monitoring, and rear parking sensors, as well as air conditioning, power windows and stereo systems.
In contrast, the base Tesla Model 3 could reach a range of more than 400 kilometers per charge in 2021, and its starting price is around $ 40,000.
The wheelbase is 113 inches long, 185 inches long, 73 inches wide, 57 inches high and weighs approximately 1,590 kg.
The Hongguang little car was launched with surprising success last summer, but it's still only sold in China. According to reports, it could eventually enter other markets.
