WebOS is no longer limited to LG TVs |
LG has announced that the company's webOS smart TV platform will soon appear on other TV brands.
LG has signed an agreement involving RCA, Ayonz and Konka. LG said: This is transforming the television industry for technology and content providers, as LG has significantly improved its visibility in the global home entertainment market.
This news came after LG released a completely revamped version of webOS at CES in January.
In LG 2021 TVs, the sliding interface has been completely abandoned and replaced with a more traditional scrollable main screen.
Existing LG TV customers appreciate this new look because it is similar to streaming devices and looks easier to use.
Others who appreciate webOS hope to bring LG webOS 6 to televisions released in 2020 or earlier.
In licensing its platform to other TV brands, LG has followed in the footsteps of Roku and Amazon, each joining a third party to bring out the Roku TV and Fire TV Edition, respectively.
According to the company, webOS partners have a very familiar user experience design and a set of comprehensive functions such as search and voice control, integrated algorithms for artificial intelligence and comfortable communication.
Partners also get access to a variety of content options, including access to global streaming services apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video and DAZN Sports, as well as the live streaming service. Free broadcast premium content from LG channels.
Compatible TV models also have a special Magic Motion remote control.
With this deal, LG will control the TV programming experience using more devices and will generate more advertising revenue.
As webOS (including other televisions) expands, so does advertising from LG sponsored channels.
This approach also gives LG more user data to optimize with webOS, which benefits the company's TV business.
