Sony is developing a new generation of virtual reality glasses for the PS5. Although it won't hit the market this year, Sony has announced an early plan to launch it via the PS5 at some point in the future.
Sony's new virtual reality glasses have a better field of view, better resolution and better cable, making them easier to use.
"We are using what we learned about the PS4 since the launch of PS VR to create a next-generation virtual reality system that has the accuracy and visibility of the location. Monitoring and input can be improved," said Hideaki Nishino, Head of PlayStation Platform at Sony.
Added: This next-generation VR headset connects to the PS5 platform via a single line to simplify setup and improve usability while offering a high-definition viewing experience.
Sony is also developing a new VR controller that uses some of the features of the DualSense PS5 controller.
Nishino said the VR console is also focused on improving the ergonomics: The new virtual reality system is still under development, and therefore will not be rolled out in 2021.
"As the developer community creates a new world that can be explored in virtual reality, we hope to make this first update available to fans," he added.
Sony will start releasing development kits for next-generation virtual reality glasses soon, but the company has yet to clarify the full specifications or release date.
This new device is clearly intended to improve some of the limitations of the original PlayStation VR headset.
"As this is our first entry into virtual reality, we will have the opportunity to apply what we have learned," PlayStation President Jim Ryan said in an interview with The Washington Post.
He added: "A very clear example is that we are doing a very simple setup over a wire."
The original Sony PlayStation VR was released 4 years ago and requires a special camera adapter for PS5.
Sony is committed to developing accessories and acknowledges that virtual reality still has a long way to go. With the development of next-generation glasses, we will soon find that Sony plans to improve virtual reality games soon.
