Samsung is extending mobile security updates for four years |
Samsung increasingly relies on extended software updates as a selling point and is now offering security fixes.
The company has promised to provide regular security updates for at least four years after the phone or tablet was first released.
Previously, Samsung promised regular security fixes for only 2 years.
If your device has already received monthly updates, you can lower the quarterly rate for a third year. However, other products are no longer regularly repaired after the second year.
The four-year commitment applies to upcoming devices, but also extends to devices released since 2019, such as the older Galaxy S10 series and Galaxy Tabs.
Samsung's new policy is not only limited to flagship models, but also budget phones like the Galaxy A10e.
Helped Qualcomm and Google make improvements to access the update for four years for Snapdragon phones, although this mostly applies to newer devices.
Samsung is extending this period to unfashionable devices, and Qualum clearly has no say in products with Samsung Exynos chipsets.
It's a rare move in the Android world, and it's still common to lose security patches after two to three years.
Now is the time to purchase a new Galaxy device as it will likely be protected from known vulnerabilities for most or all of its normal life.
This step can help the entire mobile community as it reduces the number of phones that are exploited or exposed to widespread attacks. Eligible Galaxy devices include:
