Nvidia's RTX 3060 is less attractive for Ethereum mining |
NVIDIA is working hard to make the new RTX 3060 graphics card less efficient at mining cryptocurrency Ethereum.
The use of software discovery to mine cryptocurrencies, along with the release of a new graphics card driver earlier this month, reduced Ethereum's mining hash rate by nearly 50%.
We made GeForce graphics cards for gamers, the requirements for gamers are higher, the company said, but the NVIDIA GPU is programmable.
"Users are always looking for new uses, from simulating weather and gene sequencing to deep learning and robotics, and cryptocurrency mining is one of those uses," she added.
Nvidia is clearly making changes to improve the availability of GeForce products, and the company has launched a new CMP mining processor for cryptocurrencies for Ethereum.
Nvidia said the processor offers the best performance and mining efficiency but does not support graphics at all: These CMP products don't affect the way gamers use GeForce graphics cards.
CMP products do not have display inputs so they can be added in more detail in systems designed for the mining industry.
Nvidia also ensures that the cryptocurrency mining processor works with less base load and less redundancy in order to improve the high performance requirements associated with Ethereum mining.
The company said that with the help of CMP, we can help miners build the most efficient data center while keeping GeForce RTX graphics cards for gamers.
While the introduction of custom mining options is welcome, NVIDIA may face criticism for reducing the mining efficiency of the RTX 3060.
This is an artificial constraint on Nvidia's software limitations, as Nvidia will strive to create enough graphics cards to meet demand.
The entire gaming industry, right down to the auto industry, is currently experiencing a chipset shortage at the moment, and it is clear that Nvidia sees the time now to meet the massive demand for graphics cards by ensuring that problems arise. The most popular new graphics card is only focused on games.
