Microsoft removed the old Edge browser from the computer |
The end of Microsoft's old Edge browser is nearing as Microsoft has provided more details on how to remove the old browser from Windows computers.
Over the past decade, Microsoft may have spent a lot of time getting people off the IE chains, but the company has put in place a more specific retirement plan for the first release of Edge.
Microsoft employees said in August 2020: After March 9, 2021, they will no longer provide security updates to the old Edge browser on desktop devices.
Microsoft has now added more information about what happens next.
When users apply the April 10 security update rollup for Windows 10, which will be released on April 13, 2021, Microsoft plans to remove the old Edge browser and replace it with the new Chromium-based Edge browser.
The version of Edge browser that started with Windows 10 has been uninstalled and the company's EdgeHTML engine is in use.
In 2019, the company announced that it would rebuild the browser from scratch to take advantage of Google Chrome.
In June of last year, Microsoft started using Windows Update for advertising purposes.
Two months later, the software giant announced that it will not release any other security updates for its old version of Edge browser after March 9, 2021.
If you have the Chromium version of Edge installed on your computer, this update will only remove the old version, so most users who switch to a different browser or to a new browser may not notice it.
Microsoft employees shared this information in a blog post on Edge Kiosk Mode and recommended that customers in Edge Kiosk Mode install a new browser and set Edge Kiosk Mode before applying the Windows 10 patch in April.
If Edge Kiosk Mode is not interrupted, please note that some Edge Kiosk features in the old Edge are not available in the new Edge Browser.
The company said: Most of the use cases will be available in version 90 of the browser, and version 91 of the new Edge browser should be completely equivalent.
Windows 10 editions applicable to this version include 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909, 2004, and 20H2.
