Microsoft Edge hosts illegal copies of games |
Microsoft Edge may host illegal copies of many popular games, and Microsoft and Nintendo are investigating this situation.
These include Mario Kart 64, Super Mario Bros, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Pac-Man, Tetris, Cut the Rope, Flappy Bird, Fruit Ninja, and even Minecraft.
Microsoft removed the game, but it's still there. Initially, there were 35 listings of 10 different developers, including names like GamePro Inc, Gamelands, StayReal, and Kday, which featured many duplicate games.
Many of the entries, even the entries from different developers, have very similar descriptions, indicating that they may be from the same source.
Microsoft itself appears to be promoting the Microsoft Edge browser extension, which appears to be a tweet that has now been deleted from its MSEdgeDev account.
Twitter user Jordan Chase's response to the now deleted tweet from MSEdgeDev: He installed the Mario Kart 64 extension, which is used to download the game's ROM.
It should be noted that emulators are generally legal and some websites (such as Internet Archive) host programs that can run in the browser. These programs are no longer distributed or approved by the developers or their licensors. Copyrights.
However, Nintendo, which is known to remove sites that host ROMs and pirated software, is unlikely to allow users to download copies of their favorite games via free browser attachments.
According to Chase, Tetris expansion appears to be a re-creation of a popular puzzle game, despite not having the ROM installed.
He also said: He has installed the Pac-Man add-on that appears to use a direct origin from the original game.
Reviews of some games go back to October and indicate that they have not been on Microsoft's list for a while, and it's unclear why they have been around for so long.
Many lists attempt to avoid issues with a questionable disclaimer by realizing that the list has nothing to do with the original game.
One disclaimer states: The emulator is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, and all graphics, games, and other media are copyrighted to their respective owners and authors.
