Some new data published by PCMag shows that Apple's iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 are the best-selling 5G phones in the US.
IPhone 12 Pro Max is the most popular mobile phone in 49 of the 50 US states. IPhone 12 Pro is the most popular 5G mobile phone in the rest of the United States. This makes the US one of the nation's iPhones.
These phones are only four months old. This illustrates the continued popularity of the iPhone in the United States and the importance of its role in promoting the 5G network in the United States.
The report is based on sales data from research firm M Science and information gathered from Ookla Speedtest users.
Ookla is investigating the use of the Speedtest app on consumer phones and provided test data in January.
M Science tracks the cumulative sales of 5G mobile phones in the United States. This record includes sales for the week ending January 23, and not specifically the Galaxy S21 series phones that were not shipped at that time.
M Science and Ookla agree that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is the most popular 5G phone in the US. Despite trading in iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro is ranked second.
Ookla said the iPhone 12 Pro is the most popular phone in Vermont and Washington DC and the second most popular phone in the country, while M Science said the iPhone 12 Pro is the second largest phone in the country.
This finding is in line with previous reports of strong iPhone 12 Pro Max sales and weak iPhone 12 Mini sales.
As always, Apple took the time to add 5G to its phones, while Samsung started with the Galaxy S10 5G in 2019 and added 5G to the entire S20 series in 2020.
In addition to these two manufacturers, 5G has moved from a previously unique feature to a new class of budget phones.
While there are more and more options, the adoption rate has been slow, and with Apple's share of cell phone shipments to the United States just halved, the iPhone 5G adoption rate will rise.
Admittedly, the slow start of 5G in the US was not supported by Stellar products.
Although all major carriers nationwide offer 5G coverage, overall performance is on par with 4G and sometimes worse.
If more frequencies are made available to operators later this year, the situation should change.
