| Android TV is very similar to Google TV |
Google has released a new update for Android TV. Thanks to Google TV programming on the latest Chromecast devices, the Smart TV OS almost feels like a user interface.
The new user interface updates the look and feel of Android TV to better suit Google TV's needs, adds a scroll cursor to the content that appears at the top of the list, and eliminates the large icons used to simplify the tabs.
Sponsor lines appear at the top, while "Favorite Applications" and "Start Next" appear at the top. From there, the lines containing the content from the apps are pinned via Android TV.
At the top of the screen, you'll see the "Google Assistant" bubble on the far left, then look. However, there are differences between Chromecast by Google TV UI and Android TV update.
The new Smart TV OS menu contains three main tabs:
- The home page provides quick access to apps and channels.
- Applications Places to find applications.
- The new Discover tab offers personalized recommendations for Google TV shows, movies, and trending content, similar to the For You tab on Google TV.
Instead, Google TV UI uses the aforementioned "For You" tab as its home screen, then splits some content into custom screens, movies, and tabs in real time, instead of putting it all in one place.
It also makes it easy to access purchased content through a Library tab not included in the Smart TV OS.
The update helps make Google's various smart TV platforms more consistent, although Google TV and Android TV still exist as separate products with different interfaces.
The search giant continues to plan to launch Google TV with its latest smart TV in the future.
The updated user interface begins today on devices with Smart TV operating system in the United States, Australia, Canada, Germany and France, and is expected to cover additional countries in the coming weeks.
The last major update for the Smart TV OS is Android 11, which will be available on September 22, 2020.
