| Huawei is increasing its investment in the medical field |
As the world's largest telecom equipment maker fights US trade sanctions for new growth areas, Huawei plans to focus more on wearables research.
The plan could also see Huawei catch up with Xiaomi, which is the second largest wearer in the world after Apple.
In an online event, Huawei announced three health research plans for high blood pressure, body temperature, and coronary artery disease.
He hasn't said when features based on this research will be integrated into a range of wearables (including smartwatches, smart bracelets, and glasses), but his goal is to create strong barriers to entry for competitors into the industry.
The industry as a whole expects that wearable products will help consumers better address health problems, especially chronic diseases that can affect young and old alike.

Huawei has more than 13 research centers around the world that deal with design, software and hardware development, and health research related to smart wearables.
Huawei's smart wearables (including the Watch GT 2 Pro launched last year) have health features such as heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and pressure monitoring.
