| Samsung may discontinue Galaxy Note smartphones |
According to Reuters, Samsung will stop producing its flagship phone, the Galaxy Note, next year.
This move reflects the sharp decline in demand for high-end smartphones due to the Coronavirus epidemic.
The Galaxy Note series is known for its large screens and styluses, and it is one of two completely different Samsung series of phones.
Samsung currently has no plans to develop a new version of the Galaxy Note for 2021.
Instead, the high-end Galaxy S21 series models will come with a stylus (sold separately), and the next version of Samsung's foldable phone will also be compatible with the stylus.
The company's development work (usually for the Galaxy Note) revolves around foldable phones.
"Sales of the Samsung Galaxy Note series are expected to decrease by 5 to 8 million units this year, while sales of the Galaxy series are likely to decrease from 5 million," said Tom Kang (Tom Kang), analyst at Counterpoint Research. It drops to less than 30 million units. .
"The demand for flagship phones has decreased this year and a lot of people are not looking for new products," he added.
The Galaxy Note 20 was launched in the US earlier this year, at a cost of $ 999, which is the equivalent of the Galaxy S20, while the price of the iPhone 12 starts at $ 799.
Samsung launched its first Galaxy Note phone in 2011, which opened new horizons for large screen models and helped outperform Apple for the first time this year and become the largest smartphone maker in the world.
Reports of the Galaxy Note shutdown may be exaggerated or premature because they are mainly based on rumors that the Galaxy S21, and especially the Galaxy S21 Ultra, will have the only difference between the two products.
Other reports have confirmed that there will be a Galaxy Note next year, but Samsung will only launch one model.
The idea seems to be to reduce the focus on next-generation Galaxy Note phones during the Unpacked event and move existing users to the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z phones.
If this strategy works as expected, Samsung will likely close the Galaxy Note line in 2022.
