Harmony OS arrives on all Huawei phones soon |
Huawei is switching from non-GMS Android to Harmony OS 2.0.
Huawei has officially launched the developer Harmony OS 2.0 beta for mobile devices and will launch smartphones based on its operating system next year.
(Yang Haisung): So far, more than 100,000 developers have participated in Harmony OS development projects, and the number of partner devices has increased from 5 to 10, said Yang Haisung, vice president of consumer business software division at Huawei.
According to industry reports, due to the current developments, all Huawei devices will have a smooth operating system within the next year, allowing consumers to test the system without purchasing new devices.
The goal is to cover more than 100 million devices from more than 40 major brands by next year, said Wang Chenlu, head of Huawei's Consumer Software Division.
Technically, Harmony OS is just a minor change from the previous EMUI system.
According to the official Huawei website, Harmony OS Beta users can access the stable version of EMUI 11 via HMA.
Smartphones currently available for Harmony OS 2.0 Developer Beta include:
- Huawei p40
- Huawei P40 Pro
- Huawei Mate 30.
- Huawei Mate 30 5G.
- Huawei Mate 30 Pro
- Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G.
- Huawei MatePad Pro.
- Huawei MatePad Pro 5G.
- Huawei MatePad Pro Wi-Fi.
Harmony OS is very similar to EMUI 11-based user interface. The developer documentation states that the application is written in Java and that the layout is defined in an XML file, similar to Android.
Huawei, of course, hopes to familiarize Android app developers as much as possible with its new operating system in order to remove barriers to the transition to the new OS and its associated ecosystem.
Early users also mentioned that Android development ideas can be applied to Harmony OS development, which speeds up system development a lot.
Huawei said: Harmony OS 2.0 comes with more than 15,000 APIs to aid the development of smartphones, mobile devices, cars, large screens, and many other use cases.
The company officially launched its operating system for the first time a year and a half ago, indicating that the Honor Vision Smart TV will be the first device to run this operating system.
During 2019, the company confirmed its commitment to the Android system and plans to add devices other than smartphones and tablets to its system.
