Expectations of growth in laptop sales |
The demand for laptops is expected to continue to grow due to the combination of the demand for work from home, distance learning and the peak season of vacation consumption.
According to forecasts by market research firm IDC, sales of laptops and desktops will increase 18.2% year on year by the fourth quarter of 2020 and by 2021. They will increase 1.4%.
It is estimated that laptop sales will grow by 26.4% year-on-year during the fourth quarter of 2020 and 3.2% through 2021. Desktop computer sales will decline in both periods.
By 2021, IDC expects laptop and desktop computer sales to slow and fall.
The rise in sales is due to a combination of two strong trends: traditional holiday sales growth and increased demand for laptops and desktops during the pandemic.
Many school districts around the world are still doing their best to keep their computers safe, and consumers seem to have purchased all kinds of laptops.
This occurs when sales of other types of devices (such as smartphones, computer monitors, televisions, and game consoles) increase as consumer spending changes dramatically.
The tablet market is also growing due to the blockade caused by the Coronavirus. IDC expects total tablet sales to increase 10% year-on-year in 2020.
Apple's iPad dominates most of the demand for detachable tablets.
"The momentum in the PC market is impressive," said Ryan Reith, vice president of IDC's global mobile device tracking program, in a statement.
He added, "It appears that the epidemic has hit the industry within six months earlier this year, but if we look at the supply chain in 2021, it is clear that it will increase."
