Sony launches project Airpeak drones |
Sony hopes to capture a larger share of the drone market as the Japanese giant announced a new project called Airpeak for drones in the field of artificial intelligence robotics.
According to the press release, the project will support the creativity of content creators as much as possible.
Sony seems to want to do business with consumer-focused drone manufacturers like DJI, Parrot, and Skydio.
Given Sony's experience in the compact and full-frame camera market, this decision makes sense.
If you are a video content producer or independent filmmaker with Sony equipment, you may be tempted by drones with similar technology that facilitate color correction and combining footage.
However, Sony has shown in a press release how unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can give the industrial sector efficient business processes and energy-saving impacts.
Sony helped develop the Airpeak brand to reflect their volunteer service. The goal is to create and create value through UAV imaging and sensing technology and 3R (Realism, Real-Time & Remote Control) technology.
Sony owns Drone Corporation Aerosense, a joint venture with ZMP that specializes in scanning, capturing and mapping real-time events from drone images.
As we all know, it's tough to break into the consumer drone market as GoPro thinks it can compete with DJI in 2016, but the GoPro Karma quadrotor is a commercial failure.
DJI has entered into the US government's growing hostility towards Chinese-made technology, and Japanese companies in the West may prefer Sony.
Sony has to deal with the ongoing coronavirus epidemic, which is making it difficult for people to travel to where they want to go by drone.
Sony plans to officially launch Airpeak in the spring of 2021.
