| Nintendo Switch sales in October exceeded 735,000 |
The NPD Group has released sales of the Nintendo Switch gaming platform in the United States to better understand the performance of the platform.
According to the company, the Nintendo Switch is two years behind, and the Switch series hit the nation's strongest sales so far in October of this year.
For the past 23 months, this gaming tablet has been the best-selling console in the United States, surpassing PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Global Games platform revenues (68.3 million worldwide) exceed those of NES.
Nintendo sold more than 735,000 Switch and Switch Lite platforms in the US in one month in October, and it has sold 22.5 million units in the US so far.
"An increase of 136% compared to the same period last year. We're excited about the momentum we're getting," said Nick Chavez, vice president of sales and marketing at Nintendo of America.
Chavez attributed the sharp rise in October to improving inventory supply as retail shelves were hard to find on Switch on, especially this year.
Pandemic and Hugely Successful Animal Crossing: New Horizons increased demand, and the company saw unprecedented demand for the Nintendo Switch throughout the year.
The timing of the announcement is interesting as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X also launched this week.
As the holiday approaches, competition intensifies, which could lead to the Nintendo Switch losing its title as the best-selling game console in the US over the past 23 months.
Nintendo released a number of major masterpieces to increase its success rate, including Mario Kart: Live Tour and Hair Warrior: Age of Disaster.
The company believes it shouldn't compete directly with Sony and Microsoft.
Chavez said, "It's always exciting to see new consoles enter the video game market. The entry for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X is very beneficial. We think the Nintendo Switch is in a completely different position and is aimed at buyers. Gamblers have a unique offering."
