US Commerce Department order ban against TikTok |
A US judge in Pennsylvania on Friday blocked an order from the US Commerce Department that was due to take effect November 12.
This will completely block the Chinese short video app TikTok from running in the US.
U.S. District Court Judge Wendy Beetlestone has issued an order preventing the Department of Commerce from issuing orders prohibiting the hosting of TikTok data, content distribution networks, and other technical transactions in the United States.
"In the United States, this issue will affect the shutdown of the expression platform used by nearly 700 million people around the world," Pittleston said in the decision.
She added: There are more than 100 million TikTok users in the US and at least 50 million US users who use the app on a daily basis.
The Department of Commerce understands that these restrictions may greatly affect the functionality and usability of the app in the United States, and can affect the app's effectiveness.
On September 27, Washington District Court Judge Carl Nichols ordered a lawsuit filed by BitDance, the owner of the TikTok app, that barred the US Department of Commerce from ordering Google Apps and Apple. The store has removed TikTok, preventing it from downloading. For new users.
Nichols will hold a hearing on November 4 regarding other aspects of the U.S. Commerce Department's order banned from Bitlestown.
In a lawsuit filed by three TikTok content producers, Bettlestone banned downloading the app from the App Store.
“The platform has been severely affected by the influx of users working to protect their language rights,” TikTok said in a statement.
Negotiations are underway to enter into an initial agreement between Walmart and Oracle to acquire shares in the new company TikTok Global, which is responsible for overseeing TikTok's US operations.
US President Donald Trump said last month: This deal has been blessed.
The Trump administration claims that the TikTok platform has caused national security concerns as the Chinese government can obtain personal information about the 100 million Americans who use the app.
