Defender Update Tool as a Windows installation image |
Microsoft has released a new tool that system administrators can use to update Microsoft Defender Security Package in Windows installation images. The tool supports (WIM) or (VHD) file formats.
To keep the customer protected, the software giant developed this new tool specifically for corporate environments where workstations and servers are largely maintained or installed using installation images. Windows.
Windows installation images can be reused for many months, and the standard Microsoft Defender antivirus package usually ends up with an outdated database.
The newly installed Windows operating system updated the software package (Microsoft Defender), but Microsoft said: This created a security vulnerability under which the system is vulnerable to attack and infection.
With the new tool from Microsoft, system administrators can obtain the latest version of Microsoft Defender before deploying WIM or VHD installation images to their devices.
The new tool is provided for 32-bit and 64-bit structures and supports installation images for Windows 10 - (Windows 10 Enterprise), (Windows 10 Professional), (Windows 10 Home), (Windows Server 2019) and (Windows Server 2016).
Microsoft said: Only after the new software package is released, support for the previous two versions will be reduced to technical support and the older version will not be supported.
This package (approx. 110MB) updates the anti-malware, anti-malware, and signature versions of the OS installation image to the following versions:
- Platform version: 4.18.2008.9
- Engine Version: 1.1.17400.5
- Site version: 1.323.2216.0
The package contains monthly updates and fixes for the Microsoft Defender platform and the anti-malware engine used by Microsoft Defender Antivirus in Windows 10. It also contains the most recent security information, which will be available on the release date.
In order to run this patch tool, you need to run Windows 10 or later, with (PowerShell 5.1) or later versions, after downloading the update from the links (32-bit and 64-bit).
You also need to install (Microsoft.Powershell.Security) and (DISM) modules, and run them with system administrator privileges.
The software giant recommends not to use the update for live images; Because it can damage a Windows operating system running inside a virtual machine.
