| Real augmented reality glasses are out of reach |
Facebook's chief scientist told Reuters it would take five to ten years for Facebook to bring real augmented reality goggles to market.
The company has announced plans to launch the first generation of products next year.
The world's largest social media company announced Wednesday that it has teamed up with eyewear maker Ray-Ban EssilorLuxottica to bring smart glasses to the market in 2021.
The social media giant has also announced a research project called Project Aria to collect data and support the future development of more advanced eyeglasses.
Michael Abrash, Director of Reality Lab Research (RLR) at Facebook, said that interactive display and audio features cannot be fully housed in a lighting device (such as glasses), and it is estimated that a weight of about 70 grams can be achieved.
