The world's first under-screen camera phone is coming in September |
Next month, Chinese smartphone maker ZTE is preparing to launch the world's first cell phone series with an under-screen camera that supports 5G networks.
ZTE Axon 20 5G will be launched in China on September 1st. It will be the first smartphone on the market with a camera below the screen.
The front camera is hidden under the screen and does not require any notches or small circular holes. This design enlarges the screen area of the smartphone and usually includes a black dot on the top that houses the camera.
According to leaks on the website of the Chinese regulatory authority (TENAA), the new ZTE Axon 20 5G can run on Android 10 operating system and is equipped with a 6.92-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels.
However, the exact preparation has not yet been confirmed, and more details will be announced next month.
The company said in its blog, “To continue to provide an unparalleled experience for consumers, ZTE is committed to accelerating the development of innovative technologies.
With the launch of the world's first sub-camera phone to support the fifth generation (5G) network, ZTE will promote the development of display technology in the smartphone industry, which means providing a revolutionary experience for all consumers.
The company described the new device as a milestone in selling real full-screen smartphones.
According to ZTE, all the major players in the industry are developing smartphones with sub-photo cameras.
Previously popular pressure screens were used in smartphone designs to accommodate the front camera.
Other designs include a smartphone selfie camera featured on the Samsung Galaxy A80 that can be swiped out to reveal the front camera.
As consumers spend more time enjoying video content, it is the task of the smartphone manufacturers to keep the entire screen free from eyelashes and provide a full screen display.
The front camera technology integrated under the display provides a way to achieve this without replacing the front camera.
Other Chinese companies, including Oppo and Xiaomi, are studying sub-screen camera technology.
In June, the two companies released a version of the technology on social media platforms, although neither company released a product with a hidden camera under the screen.
In 2019, ZTE launched ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G, which is one of the first mobile phones to support 5G in China (5th generation). The screen has a unique curved screen.
ZTE announced that it has achieved many milestones in the smartphone screen field, including pressure-sensitive screens in phones (Axon 7) and dual-foldable phones (ZTE Axon M Z999).
