Amazon is expanding to enter the online pharmacy market |
Amazon today opened an online pharmacy in India to provide services to the southern city of Bangalore. This is the e-commerce giant's latest move to expand its business into key developing markets.
Amazon said: Amazon pharmacy service has started and will soon offer citywide delivery services. In addition to essential healthcare supplies and traditional Indian herbs, they also provide over-the-counter and prescription medications.
The move came in the face of increasing competition between India and its rivals: Flipkart, owned by rival Walmart and Geo Mart, is an online grocery store owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani. .
Amazon decided last month to open 10 new warehouses in India and started auto insurance. Reuters reported in June that it had also received a permit to transport alcoholic beverages in the Indian state of West Bengal.
India has not finalized the regulations for online drug sales or online pharmacies, but the growth of online retailers such as (Medlife), (Netmeds) and (PharmEasy) threatens traditional pharmacies.
The two companies said that while many businesspeople will continue to protest against e-pharmacies, they will still comply with all laws in India and, without proper verification, this will lead to the sale of medicines.
Additionally, Amazon rebranded to Twitch Prime a few days ago by dropping the name (Twitch) and focusing on the brand's core. Now the service is called (Prime Gaming) Prime Gaming.
The service (Twitch Prime) gives subscribers of the Amazon Prime service permissions to the company's live streaming platform.
