| Android Go may become mandatory for weak devices |
According to the "Android 11 Device Setup Guide", Google plans to force the use of the Android Go version on newly released devices with less than 2 GB RAM.
The search giant announced a modified version of Android for low devices in 2017. Android Go is designed for devices with 1 GB or less RAM.
In this context, Google has released several small versions of the popular services compatible with Android Go. Although these low-cost devices do not need Android running, this situation may change soon.
The following are the new requirements that are being developed:
Devices with 512MB RAM cannot download Google Mobile Services (GMS) from Android 11.
If all new Android 11 devices have 2 GB or less RAM, it should work as Android Go devices.
If all new Android 10 devices have 2 GB or less RAM, it should work as Android Go devices.
It is not necessary to convert previously launched devices with 2 GB RAM and Google Mobile Services (GMS) to Android Go devices and continue to work on regular Android systems.
This means that as of the fourth quarter of 2020, every new Android 10 device with capacity of 2 GB or less should be used (Android Go).
In addition, any Android 11 device with 2 GB or less RAM must use Android Go.
Cell phones sold with early Android versions with 2GB RAM are not subject to this requirement.
The 2 GB standard RAM entry is somewhat new. This change occurred after Google updated its website last year to reflect this change.
These requirements should make a big difference to the way we deal with vulnerable Android devices.
If you stop supporting Google Mobile Services (GMS) from 512MB devices, they will not appear in the future because they are no longer supported.
Installing (Android Go) on 1GB and 2GB RAM means better overall performance.
Obviously, this change is aimed at ensuring that phones with very moderate specifications get a sufficiently light operating system.
