Microsoft acquires IoT security companies |
Microsoft announced on Monday that it has acquired CyberX, a cyber security startup for online-connected industrial plants.
Although details of the deal have not yet been released, a report released in May said that Microsoft was in talks with the startup to pay $ 165 million.
Microsoft offers several types of security products, including: antivirus software and a service to ensure the safe use of cloud applications. In recent years, the company has become increasingly interested in managing Internet of Things (IoT) systems. Express Logic, a company that developed operating systems for connected devices, was acquired last year.
Through the acquisition (CyberX), Microsoft will acquire other technologies to monitor the company's hardware, such as: b- Alarms, cameras, phones, and security perforations in industrial control systems.
Microsoft said in an article: "CyberX will complement existing Azure IoT security features and expand it to include existing hardware, including those used for IoT devices, operating technologies, and infrastructure solutions." "With (CyberX) customers can discover the current IoT assets, and manage and improve the security status of these devices," she added. With (CyberX), customers can view the entire plant or thousands inside the building. One digital map per device and collects information about asset profile and vulnerabilities. ""
Microsoft also hopes to integrate services (CyberX) with existing technologies, including: Azure Sentinel, a cloud-based service that the company provided last year to respond to security threats.
It is worth noting that CyberX was founded in Massachusetts in 2013 and, according to its website (LinkedIn), employs more than 150 people. In 2018, Microsoft also announced its commitment to spend $ 5 billion on the Internet of Things within four years.
