Microsoft offers a free repair for mysterious cracking on the surface of Surface Laptop 3 |
Microsoft provided Surface Laptop 3 owners with free fixes if they encounter reported problems shortly after their launch late last year.
In the months following the launch of the Surface Laptop 3 in October 2019, some users reported cracks on the laptop screen for no apparent reason.
Microsoft announced in its first response in February that it was investigating the issue and has now returned to clarifying the possible cause of the problem and offering free fixes to those affected.
Microsoft said on the support page: "We have investigated the claim that the surface of the Surface Laptop 3 has defects and found that in rare cases solid foreign objects can cause my hair on the glass and it appears that the breakage is unexpected or unclear why this happens."
The company added, "If you believe Surface Laptop 3 has encountered this problem, we recommend contacting Microsoft support to start a free repair during the device warranty period."
Microsoft also said: If users have already paid for fixes that they believe should be covered by this new policy, they can contact Microsoft support for possible compensation.
