Kia's future electric car will achieve very fast charging at 800 volts |
Kia announced (via Autoblog) that in the near future, 800-volt fast charging technology will not only be limited to luxury electric cars, but some upcoming electric vehicles will have 800-volt charging capabilities, not just high-end models.
Architecture works if this car is completely customized, and you can see it in a powerful coupe or limousine, but "cost-conscious" buyers and others who drive more cars should use 400 volts.
As with 800-volt cars such as the Porsche Titan and Audi E-Tron GT, the profit is tremendous if the correct charger is connected. Kia's goal is that the charging time should not exceed 20 minutes, even if the range exceeds 310 miles.
It's still a lot slower than a gas pump, but it's fast enough so that you can stop in a relatively short period of time and expect it to be fully charged again.
The company has not specifically mentioned the car in development, but plans to sell 11 models worldwide by 2025. The first generation of next-generation products (manufactured by Imagine) is expected to be made in 2021.
