| Zuckerberg joins Gates to fund research therapy Covid-19 |
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is a charity launched by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO and his wife (Priscilla Chan) in 2015. She announced on Friday that she would report to Bill Gates Accelerator, who donated $ 25 million to develop treatments and medications to treat the COVID-19 virus (Covid- 19).
After the creation of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (COVID-19 Therapy Accelerator) in early March of this year, Zuckerberg and his wife made a contribution. As part of the program, Mastercard and Wellcome announced a partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which started with $ 125 million in seed funding.
The aim of this project is to develop affordable treatments (Covid-19) that can be widely used. The sponsor will be responsible for evaluating existing drugs and reusing their current use for the treatment of Covid-19 patients and hopes that sponsor research will be used against other viral pathogens in the long term. Therapeutic supervisors will also work with WHO on this project.
Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook article on Friday that the evaluation of existing medications is especially important and that their availability will be faster than today, as today's medications have undergone clinical safety studies today regarding the development of new vaccines and more.
This announcement is one of many efforts by the tech giant Silicon Valley to stop the spread of the coronavirus, which has killed nearly 25,000 people and infected more than 500,000 people worldwide.
