Official: GSMA ends MWC this year in light of the Coruna epidemic |
GSMA, director of the world-famous Mobile World Congress Barcelona MWC, announced that this event will not happen due to the large number of companies that withdraw after the spread of the Coruna virus.
John Hoffman, chief executive of GSMA, sent a message to Bloomberg that the epidemic made the event impossible.
A week ago, LG announced its withdrawal from the conference, which will be held later this month. Since then, many other companies have announced their publication, with only a few participants remaining.
The companies that withdrew from the public health conference and the spread of the Coronavirus identified the risks that could threaten workers during the event and attracted more than 100,000 attendees from all over the world.
Corona virus, a disease similar to pneumonia, was discovered in Wuhan, the capital of China's Hubei Province, last December. As of Wednesday, the virus is officially known as COVID-19, which has infected more than 45,000 people and killed more than 1,100 people. The virus has spread from the Chinese border to about 30 countries, including the United States, Japan and Australia. Two cases were confirmed in Spain.
GSMA responds to delegate concerns with increasingly stringent measures, including handshake policy, and requiring people not to attend meetings in certain areas of China. However, precautions are not enough to prevent the company from resigning from the event.
After several updates requiring MWC to continue as planned, GSMA canceled the event shortly after adding Nokia, HMD, Deutsche Telekom and BT to the recovery list.
