First time on Macintosh: Windows bypasses the malware threat |
For the first time, Macintosh threats are growing faster than similar Windows threats, according to Malwarebytes' annual report on industrial anti-malware, as the company discovered 11 Macintosh threats last year, nearly double the average. 5.8 Threats for any Windows system threats.
Mac users are used to make Mac devices safer and less vulnerable to malware attacks from Windows devices. However, new reports show that this information is no longer valid because Macintosh threats are more than twice the threats for Windows devices in 2019.
In addition, the overall threat to the Macintosh increased by more than 400% over the same period last year. Because of its strong growth, Malwarebytes said this is likely due to an increase in market share, although recent estimates indicate that Apple's market share has shrunk in the past two quarters.
As more and more people use Apple computers, they are becoming more attractive to cyber criminals. The report also shows that the built-in MacOS security is not yet correctly reporting malware and malware (PUP) compared to malware.
Macintosh threats are different from those on Windows computers. Although Windows devices may encounter traditional types of malware, adware and unwanted software are the most common threats to Macintosh devices.
The spam program mainly consists of cleaning apps like MacKeeper and MacBooster, while NewTab tops the list of advertising programs that redirect browser searches for revenue and often spread across fake sites.
Advertising and unwanted software are less dangerous than traditional malware, but the increasing number indicates that these types of threats are becoming more aggressive.
