Huawei finds an alternative to Google Maps for its cell phone |
The Dutch digital map and navigation company TomTom announced on Friday that it has entered into an agreement with the Chinese company Huawei to use its maps and services for smart phone applications.
Huawei was not forced to develop its operating system and smartphone services until President Donald Trump's government blacklisted it for national security reasons. This prevented Huawei from using the official Android operating system and applications that are widely used in new phones such as Google Maps.
The contract with Tom Tom allows Huawei to develop applications for smartphones using company cards, traffic information, and navigation software from Dutch companies.
"The deal was closed some time ago, but the company has not announced it," said Dutch company spokesman Remco Mertra. Merstra did not provide any information about the value of the transaction.
It should be noted that the company (Tom Tom) has moved from selling equipment to provide software services and has now sold a Japanese IT service (Bridgestone) to focus on working with the digital map. ,
