AMD has confirmed that its new Threadripper 3990X processor targets desktops and is the first processor in the world to come with 64 cores.
AMD is preparing to launch the Threadripper 3990X processor in desktops by 2020, featuring 128-threads, with a 288 MB cache in L2 and L3.
The new Threadripper 3990X is expected to come at a higher cost than the 3970X, which is available in the market starting today at $ 1999.
AMD did not provide much detail on the performance and speed of the Threadripper 3990X, but leaks point to plans by AMD to show more details about the CPU in January 2020, the date set for the official launch of Threadripper 3990X.
