Asus ZenBook Pro Duo UX581GV-XB94T Review
The Asus ZenBook Duo notebook has two screens, but it accounts for about half of the most expensive version of the Pro Duo that I previously presented. In this test, you will discover the functions offered by this cheaper version and whether it is worth it. Depending on the specifications, I have a 10th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Nvidia MX250 graphics, 8GB dual channel memory, two screens we will get to know more soon and M.2 NVMe SSD - 512MB.
To make a network connection, I have the latest version of WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5, but no Ethernet connection. Therefore, you should use an adapter if necessary. It is available in a wide variety of specifications, including an i7 processor, 16GB storage, or 1TB SSD. Corresponding examples and updated prices can be found in the description.
ZenBook Duo is the flagship edition of ZenBook Pro Duo UX581 that I previously presented on the channel. The professional model is bigger and can provide all the clues, and the duo that we see here means a more economical choice, making it less specific and thus less effective. We only got the cyan ASUS logo on the spindle metal cover. The interior colors are the same, and we can see the second screen at the top of the keyboard that is pressed down due to the touchpad on the right. Overall, the build quality is good, the overall metal design is sturdy and there are no sharp corners or edges anywhere.
Asus weighs 1.5 kg and weighs just a little higher. Since the 65W mini component and its cable can be loaded with a total weight of less than 1.9kg, it is very easy to carry. As a 14-inch computer, it's much smaller and deeper than the 15-inch laptop I usually use, and it's not too thick.

When you open the cap, the height changes. After opening, the bottom edge of the screen supports the back. Since more air can penetrate, it has a better cooling advantage. It can also improve the viewing angle of the second screen, raise the keyboard to a better printing angle, and the speaker will not rest on the table.
In terms of basics, let's go to the most interesting part of this laptop, the dual screen. The bottom screen, which they call a plus screen, is a 12.6-inch touch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 515 and a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and it has a matte appearance and a viewing angle of 178 degrees. You can use your finger or pen, and although it is clear that you can find a suitable place, the pen is not listed, so I don't know if it should be included, but it is not present in the list box on the website,
The main screen is a 14 inch 1080p 60Hz panel, but there is no touch screen function here, only the bottom screen. According to my measurements, the screen has 8mm, which means the screen ratio is up to 90%. I have used Spyder 5 on screens and 14-inch motherboards, we found 95% sRGB, 66% NTSC and 72% AdobeRGB. On the other hand, the 12.6-inch screen is not good, I measured it 67% sRGB, 48% NTSC and 50% AdobeRGB. I don't think it's a big deal if it's not good as it is mainly used to display gadgets or other content and not the main source of display, be as impressive as the home screen.
The bottom plate is slightly brighter with full brightness and higher contrast. Generally, it is better for me than a plate. As for the back bleeding, there was almost nothing on the motherboard, but I never noticed it in normal use. The field of view is difficult to understand, but it seems a little rare, but it differs between laptops and tablets.

ZenBook Duo is equipped with ScreenXpert to help you manage your second screen. It has some useful functions, for example, when you drag a window onto one of the two screens, you get a shortcut that you can use to quickly move it to another screen. You can also use the ViewMax option at the end so that the window occupies two screens completely.
On the second screen, you can click to display the dark arrow icon to the left of the on-screen control panel options. The app launcher, which you can use to quickly open added apps, appears here, change the request or delete the code. Here I adjust the brightness of the bottom screen and cannot be changed via Windows. If you dig deeper, you can better control the brightness.
With the following option, you can create up to four task groups. Basically, you can set the app you want to use on the screen as you like. Click the record button to save it. This way you can easily define a number of tasks and the application itself will open automatically. If you have more than 3 apps when creating a task group, only the first three tiles are shown side by side and you'll get only four groups.

The last icon closes the keyboard to prevent the keys from being used. This is useful for drawing on the screen without having to press buttons by hand. Otherwise, there are screen settings that let you know why the floating arrow icon has disappeared so you need it and other options. If you don't want to use the second screen, you can turn it on or off quickly by pressing the button next to the power button to turn it off. I could spend 10 minutes browsing possible use cases on the second screen, but I will guide you to preview the binary professional linked in the description, as you can use it for the same function, including streaming, games, editing, etc. It's actually just the second screen, so you can use your imagination to figure out how to get the most out of your workflow.
The screen is almost inflexible and the metal cover is very solid. I can't really take pictures, but the hinges point to a far angle that helps stabilize. Although I am very light, I can still open it with one finger so that the weight is distributed evenly. Due to the way it raises its back, it looks a little embarrassing to use it on my lap, but it works fine. Although the bezel is thinner on the screen, the 720p camera is still on the front and is equipped with IR to support Windows Hi.
The camera looks blurry, but the sound is good. Although the keystrokes are generally very quiet, you can hear a lot of noise from the camera. I've found the 5.5-degree keyboard is perfect for typing, as long as you have enough room on the table to bring it back a little bit as it's on top. In contrast to the more expensive Pro version, the palm rest is not included. The key to the key movement is 1.4 millimeters. Here's how to write the sound down to get a rough idea of what to expect and how to find it below from what we hear on camera.

Fingerprint does not really appear on the keyboard and touchpad. After using a large number of screens that appear on the screen, the fingerprint is more clear but easy to clean. It is easy to see on the metal cover, but since it is a smooth surface it is easy to clean. Although it slips easily.
Two of the speakers were in the left and right front corners and looked slightly above average with some bass, and possibly better, due to the extra distance between them and the table causing the bounce. When the music plays at full volume, the sounds look a little loud and Delaymon's results are good. After removing the TR5 screws, the base plate can be removed easily. Inside, we drained the battery at the front and the M.2 mono drivers, which were almost welded to memory on the motherboard and could not be upgraded. So you have to buy from scratch.
ZenBook Duo is powered by a 70-hour battery with four cells. I tested on two screens and only the main screen and the second screen below. In this test, the screens were 50% bright and the keyboard backlight was off. Not surprisingly, the two screens used more power, but the results were better than most other laptops. Although gaming testing took most of the time, note that it only works at 21 fps instead of the usual 30 fps from Nvidia battery cover, as the battery doesn't seem to provide enough power to make it work better. It still works and remains at 5% until it drops to 5fps, which takes 9 minutes longer than what I see on the graph.

With MyASUS, we can choose standard automatic mode for better performance or silent mode to work quieter at lower fan speeds. Thermal tests were performed at room temperature 21 ° C. It is very cold in slow motion. The rest of the results come from a combined CPU stress test with the aim of providing the worst case of both cases being loaded simultaneously. It also used Aida64 with "CPU only" printing option and Heaven GPU standard to load the entire system. The worst case in silent mode is when the CPU reaches 75 ° C and there is no temperature regulation under a heavy, stable load.
These are the hourly rates for the same tests that were just presented. By activating the automatic mode, the GPU speed can be basically doubled. As the TDP processor limit is raised to 15W, which is also the default setting for the i5-10210U processor, the processor clock speed also increases. Less workload can help improve performance. The main limitation here is the maximum power of 15 watts. In this way, only processor performance is shown in Cinebench. When the processor power limit is raised from 11W to 15W on average, Auto mode slightly improves performance, but we can achieve a good increase in multi-core performance by slightly lowering it, negatively affecting single-core evaluation. The keyboard area is completely free for the area that you actually touch.
The screen looks relatively warm, but most laptops are inactive at around 30 ° C, so this is not a real problem. When the stress test is activated, the keyboard gets warmer, but always cooler. Now the display is very hot and reaches 40 degrees. This is to be expected because the ingredients generate less heat directly. In the mid-1950s, the right panel returned to the right as the air below the screen became scarce. Fan noise during these tests is shown below. Idle completely silent. The fan was very quiet while testing the pressure in silent mode, the sound could only be heard by turning off your ears, then the autoplay mode was a little quieter than most other laptops that I tested.

ZenBook Duo only contains Nvidia MX250 graphics and should be able to read some short titles. So let's see what we can do. Fortnite has been tested with repeat function and just works very well with presets in low settings. With all the other settings, the frame rate seems to drop dramatically. Dota 2 tested in the middle lane. At the highest setting, the performance is still well above 60fps, but below average, it's much better because the low level is 1% higher. "Monitoring" was tested in the training area with a 100% display rate. The average setting should be greater than 60fps and can be used, but higher settings are ineffective.
CS: GO tested by UPS, middle setting reached over 100fps in this test, but low value of 1% is too low. With 1080p resolution you can still do very well, but as we've just seen, fewer adjustments are required. For more demanding games, you need lower or better resolution for a laptop with more powerful graphics if games are a priority. I've tested a 512GB SSD NVMe with Crystal Disk Mark and it works fine, but according to ASUS datasheet data, it only uses two PCIe methods, while the 1TB option appears in 4 lanes. Unfortunately, I don't have a memory card of any size, so I can't test the micro SD card slot.
By comparison, ZenBook Pro Duo UX581 is much more expensive, but it has more powerful specs, an OLED display and options to upgrade to the i9 version. This is just a clear choice. For more information, see "My Reference" in the description. With this in mind, we'd like to provide an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of ASUS ZenBook Duo laptops. Basically, it's a cheaper alternative to the more expensive ZenBook Pro Duo UX581. It still offers the following main advantages
Asus ZenBook Pro Duo UX581 Alexa |
The creative aspect is also interesting, but it always depends on the app. After all, it's just a separate screen below the main screen so you can use your imagination to enjoy all the workflow. The external screen may be larger because it may be larger, but it is part of the facilities. Despite the second screen, we still have a 14-inch compact and light laptop here. The main solutions of the unique design are the position of the front keyboard and the requirements of the slim touchpad. However, if you have office space to move the device into writing, you can still use the mouse. The additional screen affects battery life. However, if you are not using it, you can deactivate it. However, battery life is good in both cases.
Since the specifications are low, the temperature is not a problem, staying quiet even under heavy loads and feel no heat so as not to touch it in the area where your hands are actually raised. The MX250 graphics chip is a big step towards Intel's integrated graphics chipsets, but when it comes to games it can still handle light video game titles with settings less than 1080p. It's not a gaming laptop, but it's easy to play games, and graphics also support GPU acceleration for some content creation workloads, for example B. in video editing.
There is a small space to upgrade. You can only change the M.2 drive. However, this requires drive cloning or a new Windows operating system installation because there is only one site for one site. The memory, CPU, and GPU cannot be updated. So you should consider purchasing the receiver. I thought I could choose I / O, but I think it would be nice to use Thunderbolt on such a device. Regarding the price, I suspect ZenBook Duo is an impressive notebook that offers a second screen at a great price compared to Pro Duo, with good build quality, and there is now more, there is something unique. If you thought you could take advantage of more screen space and no longer want to spend in a sophisticated professional style, then this is definitely worth a look.
